Executive Team

Denis de St. Aubin
CEO
Denis founded the company in 1994. He motivates his team of financial professionals to exceed client expectations as a company standard. His successful business insight has established several companies, including Heritage Investments, Heritage Concrete Service Corporation, and Chatham Hackney Insurance. Denis attended High Point College, East Carolina University, and graduated from Greensboro College. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors for Heritage Concrete Service Corporation, Service Building Supply, a board member for Galloway Ridge, and the NC Art Incubator.

Michael Spohn
President
Michael serves as President and Chief Financial Officer for Old North State Trust. He oversees Old North State Trust’s financial and operational activities. In addition, he is an individual client advisor and financial consultant for small to medium-sized business owners providing guidance on financial and operational efficiencies, bank and equity financing, tax planning, business succession, and personal wealth strategies. Prior to joining Old North State Trust, Michael served as Chief Financial Officer for both public and privately-owned family companies in service, distribution, and manufacturing industries. Previously, Michael served as an auditor and consultant at the public accounting firm BDO Seidman, LLP in Greensboro, NC. Michael received a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as well as a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from High Point University.

Tammy Sharpe
Managing Director of Trust Services
Tammy serves as Managing Director of Trust Services and oversees all aspects of trust services for Old North State Trust. As Managing Director, she is responsible for upholding successful company operations by implementing business strategies and fostering client relationships with her team. In addition to her leadership role, she assists her clients in developing specific financial strategies focusing on asset protection, investment management, and wealth transition techniques. Tammy has over 23 years of experience dedicated to the trust industry. Prior to joining Old North State Trust, she served as the Fiduciary Manager of the NewBridge Bank Wealth Division. Tammy is a graduate of the Cannon Financial Trust Institute with a concentration in Personal Trust and Fiduciary law. Throughout her career, she has held increasingly key positions that include compliance and regulatory oversight, relationship management, and estate planning. Tammy has served as Chairperson on multiple committees both in her professional and personal life.

Laura Allen
Associate Trust Officer
Associate Trust Officer
Laura is an Associate Trust Officer serving Greenville and eastern North Carolina. She is responsible for the day-to-day administration of trusts, estates, and retirement accounts, including cash management, asset tracking, and client service. Laura has over 16 years of experience in the banking industry. Prior to joining the Old North State Trust team, she worked for Yadkin Bank-AgCarolina Farm Credit. Laura graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s in Business Education.

Susan Beard, CRPC®, CTFA

Senior Wealth Advisor
As Senior Wealth Advisor for Old North State Trust, Susan works with individuals and families who not only seek objective financial strategic planning but overall guidance in creating and passing down their legacy to family and community. Susan has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, first with Bank of America Trust, then with Wachovia Bank, and Wells Fargo Wealth Management. Susan is a graduate of Mary Washington University with a B.S. in Business Administration. She holds her CTFA certification and CRPC®, Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor SM designation. Susan enjoys community involvement and challenges; she has participated in fundraising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of central and western North Carolina by completing a 28-mile hike in one day. She is a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, Greensboro, NC Chapter, a member of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro Professional Advisors Committee, and a board member of Step-Up Greensboro, which provides free job training, active mentoring, and support to help individuals obtain employment and build stable lives.

Bob Edwards, MBA

As a Senior Trust Officer for Old North State Trust, Bob assists and guides clients in developing their financial objectives through the administration of trusts, investment management, and estate accounts. In addition, Bob is responsible for the ONST compliance & regulatory account review requirement. A well-seasoned veteran of the Banking and Trust services industry, Bob’s career has spanned over 52 years. Before joining ONST, Bob worked with RBC Centura Bank, principally as Personal Trust Services Manager and Senior Trust Officer. Bob graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He also received a Master’s in Business Administration from Campbell University and completed the Southeastern Trust School at Campbell University. Bob has been active with trust education through Campbell University serving on the Trust Foundation Board and as Dean of the Southeastern Trust School.

Spence Evans, CTFA, MBA

Spence serves as a Senior Trust Officer for Eastern North Carolina through the Greenville Office. He assists and guides clients in developing their financial objectives through the administration of trust, investment management and estate accounts. Prior to joining ONST, Spence served the Greenville, NC area with BB&T as a Private Wealth Advisor holding Series 66 and 7 licenses. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Trust and Wealth Management and his Master of Business Administration from Campbell University. Spence serves on various local non-profit boards and committees and is also an Assistant Chief for the Winterville Community Fire Department.

Regina Johnson, CTFA

Regina serves as a Trust Officer for the Triad area of North Carolina. She has extensive experience working with trust administration, estate settlement, taxation, asset allocation, and risk management. In addition, she also specializes in older adult issues, such as Medicare, social security, financial protection, and transitions. She spent 25 years in fiduciary administration with Wells Fargo and its predecessor, Wachovia. Prior to Old North State Trust, Regina served as a Financial Advisor at Midtown Financial Advisors holding Series 65, 63, and 6 licenses. Regina is a graduate of High Point University with a B.S. in Business Administration. She also received a post-baccalaureate degree in Gerontology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Regina graduated from the Southeastern Trust School at Campbell University and completed Cannon Trust School. She holds the Certified Trust Financial Advisor (CTFA) designation from the Institute of Certified Bankers and the Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) designation from the Society of Certified Senior Advisors. She is an active volunteer with the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP).

Cody Lewallen, CFP®, CPFA

As a Relationship Manager for Old North State Trust, Cody works closely with Individuals and Retirement Plans as a Fiduciary. Having received his bachelor’s degree in Trust & Wealth Management from Campbell University, Cody has built the foundation to effectively communicate our Investment Philosophy dynamics to existing and prospective clients. In addition to his role as a Relationship Manager, Cody oversees the qualified plan process from the outset to implementation by partnering with Plan Sponsors, Third Party Administrators, and Plan Record-Keepers. Cody ensures that our clients are provided with the highest level of care while upholding the fiduciary standard as outlined by ERISA. Cody’s passion is centered around guiding clients toward sound retirement savings strategies, developing comprehensive financial plans, and serving his clients as their trusted financial partner and resource. He also holds the designations of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor. Before joining Old North State Trust, Cody worked as a Financial Advisor with an investment and retirement planning firm in Greensboro.

Jan Metcalf, CTFA

Jan serves as Senior Trust Officer assisting clients with developing and implementing their personal financial objectives through the administration of trusts, estates, IRAs, investment, and custodial accounts. Jan is a graduate of Elon College, with further graduate work at UNC Charlotte. A graduate of Cannon Financial Institute’s Personal Trust School, she is certified by the American Institute of Banking as a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA). She is a graduate of Elon College (now Elon University). Jan has worked in trust services for over sixteen years and previously in the financial and administrative areas of private business.

Robin Miller

Robin serves as a Trust Officer for the Wilmington and Southeastern NC areas. She assists and guides clients in developing their financial objectives through the administration of trust. Robin has over 45 years of experience in the banking industry. Prior to joining Old North State Trust, she worked for Wachovia Wealth Management as a Trust Associate for 13 years. Throughout her career, Robin has held key positions, but her primary focus continues to be on meeting clients’ needs.

Chris Nichol, MBA

As Associate Portfolio manager, Chris is responsible for daily economic research, portfolio analysis, financial review, and trading in client accounts. During his 7 years in financial services, Chris has gained experience in retail financial services, estate care, private wealth management, trust, and investments. He has served on various committees in retirement, trust, management, implementation, and investments. Chris is a graduate of The Bryan School of Business & Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance.

Alyce Phillips

Marketing Director
As Marketing Director, Alyce works to develop, budget, and implement marketing plans, which include advertising, coordination of conferences, special events, and development and maintenance of marketing materials. She also oversees the company’s website, in-house articles, and fostering community initiatives within the organization. Alyce received a BS degree in Interior Design from East Carolina University with a concentration in Business Administration and obtained her teaching certification from UNCW.

Paul Snyder

As Chief Investment Officer, Paul is responsible for implementing the overall investment strategy, overseeing asset allocation, as well as participating in other research and portfolio management duties. During his tenure, he has worked with many types of clients including business owners, public and private pension/profit sharing plans, municipalities, corporations, foundations, endowments, retirement/qualified plans, and numerous types of trust accounts. Over the years he has been a member of various capital market, trusts, and risk committees. Paul graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He also earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Royce Weisner, MBA

Royce serves as a Senior Trust Officer in the Triad and Western North Carolina markets. He is responsible for the administration of trusts, investment management accounts, IRAs, and estates. Royce earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Trust and Wealth Management, a Minor in Financial Planning, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Campbell University. With over 17 years of experience, his extensive background in Trust Services and wealth management is a natural fit for the Old North State Trust team. Royce is active in volunteering in the community. He is also a member of the Greensboro and Asheville Estate Planning Counsels as well as a member of the SFSP group (Society of Financial Service Professionals) in both Greensboro and Asheville.

Iesha Wood
Individual Retirement Account Specialist
Individual Retirement Account Specialist
With over a decade of experience in the banking industry, primarily serving as an Individual Retirement Account Specialist, Iesha’s principal focus is to ensure the company remains in compliance with all IRS regulations and procedures as it pertains to IRA accounts. As a Certified IRA Specialist II, Iesha has completed specialized training to effectively manage and oversee all aspects of IRAs from research and correcting client IRS audits, verifying and processing IRS reporting, reviewing, and updating IRA forms, and conducting internal IRA training for company staff. In addition to her role as Certified IRA Specialist II, Iesha manages all Self-Directed IRA accounts for Old North State Trust.
